Sayed Jaffar Naderi (Born in 1966) is the leader of the Ismaili, a mainly Hazara Shi'ite Muslim people of northwestern Afghanistan.
The son of Sayed Mansour Naderi, he grew up in the United States, where he was a member of a hippie motorcycle gang in Allentown and played the drums in a heavy metal band.
During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan Sayed Jaffar pursued a clever policy, brokering deals both the Soviets and the Mujahedeen. He was allied with General Dostum. After the Soviet pullout, he became the Governor of Baghlan province, in charges of a 12,000 man private army, which had at its disposal tanks and helicopters. He was ousted by the Taliban in 1996 and later joined ranks with the Northern Alliance against the Taliban.
Sayed Jaffar was the star of the 1989 documentary "Warlord of Kayan" produced and directed by Jeff B. Harmon. The film won the Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
