Is it ten minute or eight minute halves? - crazynas March 20, 2005 6:42 (GMT)
- According to the rules (see #20):
- The match is played until either the time expires or all the toss-up questions have been read. Regional competitions will have two 8-minute halves with a 2-minute break (halves at the Nationals are 10 minutes).
- The National Middle School Science Bowl, though, has eight minute halves for both the regionals and the nationals (I believe).

Regional rules vary widely. Most regionals follow the prescribed 8-minute halves. Some regionals play untimed. Aerion//talk 07:29, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, but at National finals we play with 11-minute halves. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 | T | C | @ 04:03, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- National Finals were 11 minutes because of the visual bonuses, which was a new concept introduced this year. Lucas(CA)
- Visual boni were introduced in 2003 ("back in my day," you might say). Halves were still 10 minutes for all rounds back then—that really helped us win the fifth place match, since visual boni killed the clock while the opponents were trying to mount a comeback. Aerion 05:53, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
