Seán Doherty is a former Gaelic football player for Dublin and Ballyboden St Endas.
[edit] Playing career
On his first all-Ireland winning year 1974, Seán captained the Dublin senior football team to all-Ireland and Leinster glory. The 1974 Leinster championship was to be the first of a remarkable six in a row for Dublin. Doherty captained Dublin to victory over Galway in the all-Ireland final at Croke Park on September 22, 1974. The game finished on a scoreline of 0-14 to Galway's 1-06. Seán was awarded an allstar for his performances in the Dublin backline that same year.
His second all-Ireland victory for Dublin came two years later in 1976. Dublin played against Kerry on September 26, 1976 at Croke Park. The final score was Dublin 3-08, Kerry 0-10. Doherty won a National Football League in that same year.
1977 proved another successful season for Doherty with Dublin lifting the Sam Maguire Cup for the third time in his career. Dublin defeated Armagh in the final at Croke Park on September 25, 1977. The game proved to be a comprehensive win for Dublin as the game finished on a scoreline of 5-12 to 3-6. During the following year, Doherty won his second NFL medal with Dublin.
