Season to Risk
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Season to Risk is a post-punk/electronic collective hailing from Kansas City, Missouri. Season to Risk formed in late 1989 from the ashes of two legendary Kansas City punk bands, Nine Lives and Curious George. Although Season to Risk (or S2R as they are sometimes called) has had many line-up changes in the many years of its existence, two of its founding members have remained constant: Steve Tulipana (lead vocals, and sometimes playing guitars and keyboards) and Duane Trower (lead guitar, keyboards, and vocals). The most recent line up, in addition to Steve Tulipana and Duane Trower (also of Overstep and the now defunct Quitter's Club), includes David Silver (of Iron Rite Mangle on drums) since 1994, Billy Smith (formerly of Dirtnap, Gollywog, and Unknown Pleasures on Bass) since 2000, and sometimes Wade Williamson (also of Stella Link, Dirtnap, and Sterlyng Wynch on rhythm guitar and keyboards).
Season to Risk have been compared to many disparate groups including Bad Brains, Fugazi, SSD, The Jesus Lizard and Drive Like Jehu.
Season to Risk's most current release is "The Shattering" (2001), but other releases include "Men Are Monkeys, Robots Win" (1998) and "In A Perfect World" (1995), with a cover designed by Derek Hess. The self titled debut "Season To Risk" (1992) features the underground hits "Snakes" and "Mine Eyes", with a cover designed by Frank Kozik. Both Hess and Kozik produced limited edition silkscreen posters of the covers, which remain popular in the collectors market.
The band performed in the warehouse party scene in the movie Strange Days.
Season to Risk still plays occasional events, with the band members now working on other projects. Tulipana and Smith are currently members of Roman Numerals. Season to Risk most recently performed live at Record Bar in Kansas City, Missouri, on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 with Canadian punk legends Nomeansno.
