The Senate is the upper house of the National Assembly of Nigeria. It consists of 109 senators, three from each of the nation's 36 states and one from the Federal Capital Territory.
The current (2006) President of the Senate, Hon. Ken Nnamani of the People's Democratic Party, is the presiding officer of the Senate, whose chief function is to guide and regulate the proceedings in the Senate.
The lower house is the House of Representatives.
