Sergey Gaponov

Sergey Petrovich Gaponov is a Russian Biologist.
Gaponov S.P. was born in 1964 in Voronezh. He entered the Department of Biological and Soil Studies of Voronezh State University in 1981 after graduation from a secondary school with a gold medal. During the course of studies in Voronezh State University S.P.Gaponov showed himself as a bright, purposeful and hardworking student. He specialized in Zoology, Entomology, Dipterology and Parasitology. He graduated the Department in 1986 and received the Honor Diploma. In 1986-1989 years he did a Post-graduate course. During these years S.P.Gaponov demonstrated his scientific talent, discipline and independence of thought. In 1990 he defended the PhD in Biology. From1990 to 1995 S.P.Gaponov worked as an assistant professor, since1995 worked as an associate professor and since 2004 up to present time he has been working as a Full professor of the Division of Theoretical and Medicine Zoology of the Biological and Soil Studies Department of Voronezh State University. In January 2003 S.P.Gaponov successfully defended DSci dissertation (Doctor of Biological Sciences dissertation) in Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (St-Petersburg). The title of his thesis was “Trends of evolutionary transformations of cyclorrhapha flies (Diptera, Cyclorrhapha)”. S.P.Gaponov is a highly qualified specialist in the field of Zoology, Entomology, Parasitology and Theory of evolution. He published about 110 scientific articles and 15 methodological textbooks. Zoology of Soils. – Voronezh, Voronezh State University, 2005. – 130 pp. S.P.Gaponov received several awards for his scientific activities: Premium of the Administration of Voronezh District (1995), Premium of the European Academy of Sciences (1996). Scientific achievements of S.P.Gaponov received a wide acclaim. As a researcher, S.P.Gaponov is characterized by researcher keenness, ingenuity, ability to see the distant prospects of scientific investigations. The contribution made by S.P.Gaponov in the field of Medicine and Parasitology is marked by the Diploma of Cambridge Biographic Centre (1996, 1998), by the medals «Man of the year 1996» (American Biographical Institute; Cambridge Biographical Centre). In 1992-1994 he received a grant of the Government of Russia for young scientists. In 1996-1999 he was the leader and participant of a number of scientific projects, including the one initiated and sponsored by the Russian Fund of Fundamental research. In 1990-2005 academic years S.P.Gaponov delivered courses of “Biology of Soils”, “Comparative Anatomy”, “Ethology”, “General Parasitology”, “Medical Zoology”, “ Zoology of Invertebrates”, “General Biology”, etc. During 15 years of working activity in Voronezh State University S.P.Gaponov elaborated new courses, e.g. “Zootoxinology”, “General Ethology and Genetic of Behaviour”, “Life cycles of living organisms and their evolution”, “Biology of Soil”. In 2000-2001 academic year S.P.Gaponov won the JFDP (Junior Faculty Development Program) grant of the USA Department of States and studied methodology of courses “Parasitology”, “General Biology”, “Genetics”, “Technology of Education” in the USA (Faifield University and Yale University, CT). He also delivered the courses in the USA. S.P.Gaponov’s contribution to the system higher education is marked by the Diploma of Cambridge Biographic Centre (1998). He was an associate professor of the Soros Fund (International Soros Science Education Program) (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000). S.P.Gaponov took part in the program «Tempus» in cooperation with the University of Granada (Spain) and the University of Louven (Belgium). He was awarded with special diplomas: "Outstanding People of the 20th Century in Higher Education” designation (Cambridge, 1998), Laureate of the European Academy of Natural Sciences Award (1996), Man of the Year designation (Cambridge, International Biographical Centre, 1996; American Biographical Institute, 1996), Decree of Merit in Medicine and Parasitology (Cambridge, 1996), Laureate of the Voronezh Administration Talented Researchers' Award (1995), Laureate of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Award (1995), Russian Academy of Sciences Talented Researchers' Award (1994-1996)
