Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Shadwell Turf Mile is an American race for thoroughbred horses aged three-years-old and upwards. This Grade I event is run every year at Keeneland at a distance of one mile on the turf and offers a purse of $600,000. In its 21st year in 2006, the race is sponsored by Shadwell Farm. Running during the fall meet, the Shadwell is a major prep for the Breeders' Cup Mile.
Before Sheik Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Shadwell Farm in Lexington, Kentucky began to sponsor this race in 1999, it was known as the Keeneland Breeders' Cup Mile.
