Shambhala (music festival)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shambhala is a yearly electronic music festival held in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada during mid August. The festival began in 1998 and has grown to become the largest & longest running electronic music event in Canada, featuring DJs and performers from around the globe. It has seven uniquely themed stages and is held on the Salmo River Ranch, a 500 acre cattle ranch in the mountains outside of Nelson. To this day it remains a family run affair, with about 400 volunteers on stage set up crews, and many others doing such activities as working the first aid tent, recycling crew, and energy/body workers. It is situated on the Salmo River Ranch and there are permanent structures built onto the property.
The seven stages consist of: The Living Room, The Pit, The Fractal Forest, The Village, The Portal, The Seed of Life and The Main Stage.
The festival runs for 5 days and event goers share a positive vibe with one another uniting for a celebration of life, love, music, and art. Elaborate, ornate costumes are not necessary but are highly encouraged as is an open mind and a smile.
