Shaun Phillips (born March 13, 1981 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), is an American football linebacker for the San Diego Chargers. He grew up in Willingboro, New Jersey.

Phillips played for Purdue University from 1999 to 2003. He started 49 straight games and graduated as Purdue's all-time sacks leader with 33.5. As a senior, he was a second-team All-American and was first-team all-conference. He also caught two touchdowns as a tight end during his college career.
[edit] NFL Career
Phillips was drafted by the Chargers in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he played in all 16 games and was second on the team with four sacks. He continued to improve in his second season as he recorded seven sacks in 15 games, good for second on the team.
Prior to the 2006 season, Phillips had mostly been used as a pass rush specialist rather than an every-down linebacker. But with the September 2006 shooting of teammate Steve Foley, Phillips moved into the starting LB spot previously occupied by Foley. He made an instant impact and was a second alternate for the 2007 Pro Bowl.
On February 20, 2007, Phillips signed a six-year contract extension with the Chargers.
