Shawn Allen Berry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1999, Shawn Allen Berry was, along with John William King and Lawrence Russel Brewer, convicted of the 1998 hate crime murder of James Byrd, Jr. in Jasper, Texas.
Berry was the hardest of the three defendants to convict because there was a lack of evidence to suggest that he himself was a racist. He had also claimed that his two companions were entirely responsible for the crime. King and Brewer received the death penalty, while Berry received a life sentence.
