I finally created a Wikipedia account today, after having been a lurker here for a long time... I have lots of interests, and one of them is distribution of scientific knowledge. Hence my choice of nick: Shastra, which means "knowledge" in Sanskrit. Don't take this choice of nick as an example of Hubris, but rather as a reminder of what is the general point of having a Wikipedia in the first place...

I am a 46-year-old male living in Sweden.

My professional knowledge is concerned with computer programming and network protocols. I consider myself a dilettante in the areas of physics, logic, and psychedelic drugs. But I have a wide range of other interests, from gardening and buddhist philosophy to biochemistry and economic theory, to name a few.

I have no intention of using Wikipedia as a soapbox, but since ideological bickering seems inevitable here, I think it will simplify things if I state my biases explicitly:

I know many people think religion is cool, and as long as religion doesn't hurt anybody, I'm all for it. But I will never understand why people think that worshipping a "creator god" from the barbaric middle-east must necessarily be good? And I recommend anyone who has a purely analytical opinion about religion to try 20mg psilocybin or 300ug LSD before making any claims of their own about the nature of reality.

Sometimes young people have a problem understanding why communism is wrong. For their benefit I will explain the main reason here: stealing other people's property will make the owners of that property very distressed and angry. This is bad. There are also a number of purely economical reasons why communism is inferior to capitalism, but they should be obvious to any fairly intelligent student of economics.

I promise to be relentless against all kinds of pseudoscience, including so-called "Intelligent Design", Homeopathy, Feng Shui, and any similar crap that is intended to exploit people's fears or superstitions in order to make easy money.
