[edit] welcome

Welcome! You're right that Rav Avraham Yitzchak Ulman his name should be spelled as R' Avrohom Yitzchok. Generally we prefer using one system of writing though. Wikipedia also writes about Rav Naftali Halberstam, for example, or Rav Mordecai David Unger. Not Naftule, and not Mordche, even though those would be more correct. Maybe we should change it, though. --Daniel575 21:53, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Daniel BS"D

Daniel,

omein to what you said about changing the system with writing names on here. I know plenty of rabbonim who hate it when their names are spelled I.E. Shalom instead of Sholom, or Yisrael instead of Yisroel. I am pretty sure that some of the rabbonim on here would hate it as well or if they are in Gan eden in Shomayim, they are not enjoying themselves as much as normal people who wouldn't worry about this stuff. --Shaul avrom 22:17, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Changing the spelling system used on Wikipedia is not a simple option. It would require far more than simply altering a few letters here and there. The current system of spelling a "kometz" with the letter "a" rather than "o" is by current consensus. Please do not go altering articles without consulting first.
As for your remark about certain Rabbis sitting in "Shomayim" not enjoying themselves - SURPRISE! The last I checked, Chazal clearly define Gan Eden as "Tzadikim yoshvim ve'atroseiyem berosheiyhem ve'nehenim vi'ziv HaShechina". It doesn't bother the Tzadikim whether when someone spells their name in English they spell a "kometz" as an "A" or an "O". They have better things to do. Telzer 05:13, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
I know, this is a problem. Personally I'm fine with writing Avrohom, Yitzchok, Sholom, Yisroel. And actually, when it comes to specifically chareidi ashkenazi rabbonim I don't see how anyone could object. --Daniel575 07:41, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eruv

In the article Eruv, you wrote that there are five eruvin in Baltimore. I only count 3. One around TA, one for Ner Yisrael, and for the bulk of the jewish community. Where are the other two? Jon513

There is the three you mentioned, then there is one in the glyndon area, the downtown eruv, and R' tendlers eruv next to the one around the Yeshiva. So there are actually 6. Shaul avrom 14:46, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
ok, thanks. (I hope you don't mind I changed the formatting a bit). Jon513 16:14, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
I have no problem with the formatting change Shaul avrom 16:16, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A WikiProject Proposal...

I noticed that you were a part of the now inactive WikiProject covering orthodox Judaism. I'm wondering if you'd be interested in a new project I'm thinking over that would specifically expand wikipedia's information on mitzvot in detail. What I'm thinking over is that each mitzvah holds enough depth to be an article on its own, and as I just finished writing an article on viddui I noticed that the amount of information on fundamental concepts of Judaism is sorely lacking (as a test I tried to find information on topics such as shacharit and was very dissapointed). If you'd be interested please feel free to leave me a message! תזכו למצוות!--RShnike 01:28, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your question about Mechitzah article

Hello. You asked "exactly how do I do that." Are you asking how to edit an article, or are you asking what the content should be? If you're asking about the content of the article, suggest editing Talk:Mechitza and replying there. I went ahead and flagged that an expert was needed to assist -- I don't feel I know enough right now to write the section myself. Best, --Shirahadasha 02:29, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gay rights in Israel

I wonder what you think about, for instance, the opening line: "Israel remains the most advanced and tolerant in the Middle East in terms of gay rights." Might this be POV? If, for instance, one doesn't view adoption by homosexuals to be an advancement but rather a regression, then yes. Anyway, I'll defer to you on this. Biruitorul 05:55, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

I thought that was the case. The question is: can/should we rephrase some of that article to give it a more balanced view? It seems to reflect the attitudes of Reform or secular Jews more than those of (for instance) Chareidim. Biruitorul 19:20, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CRT and LCD being ksiva

BS"D

CRTs and LCDs are ksiva, I asked my Rov. --Shaul avrom 00:49, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

And so did I, BTW. Also, I have discussed this with Talmidim of R' Moshe ZTL. If anything it is a machlokes heintege poskim, but I would like to hear his p'shat in k'siva that has LCD's and CRT's as such. Where is the Dyo, where is the G'vill, can you have a Sefer Torah on the screen? Are you chayav Skilah on Shabbos? Please let me know his sources for that, and how he understands the mechanics. Remember, people thought telephones were fire and such at one point (check the old t'shuvos). R' Shlomo Zalman went and spoke to physicists! -- Avi 00:54, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No answer

No comment regarding that website. A question for you: please drop by on Haredim and Zionism, bottom of the talk page there ('dispute resolution'). It is about the inclusion of the sefer 'Eim HaBanim Semeichah' on that page (I want to have it removed, see talk page) and if it is to be included, in what form (I say, note that the entire Chareidi world rejects it). Meshulam keeps insisting on including it and presenting it as if it is a major work. Hope you can drop in to give your opinion. --Daniel575 | (talk) 21:36, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Inappropriate Pic. in 'Israel' Article

There is a picture in the section of the Israel article entitled 'Religion in Israel' with the caption 'Young Haredi men on Purim in Jerusalem' which is completely inappropriate. The picture is not at all representative of Haredi -- or even just religious-- society and is offensive.

I hope someone will remove it promtply. An appropriate replacement would be something along the lines of a street scene depicting a broad cross-section of the Orthodox-Jewish community in Jerusalem. --Eitz Chayim 21:42, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for removing the pic.--Eitz Chayim 05:39, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I'm not with NK, really. I am Edah. But I am with the strongest kannoim inside the Edah regarding Zionism. There is not so much of a difference between us and the NK of the Katzenellenbogens. Several people in my shul are NK-affiliated (Graniks. --Chussid 08:13, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cholov Yisroel

I have reverted your edit to the Cholov Yisroel article, since you don't seem to have read either what I wrote, or the rationale for it on the Talk page. If you are just going to revert my thought-out edits, please have the courtesy to give a reason for doing so. In any event, to suggest that you need a rov to supervise milk to make it cholov yisroel is plain wrong. Please check your sources. Any Jew can supervise milk to make it cholov yisroel.--Redaktor 23:24, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry Shaul, but I think you are confusing cholov yisroel with hashgocho. Cholov yisroel requires supervision by a Jew. Period. It is a תקנת חז"ל. Hashgocho is a separate issue, which should be linked into this article. If you wish to continue this discussion I shall reply on my Talk page.--Redaktor 19:05, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
