She's Not There

"She's Not There" was the debut single by the British pop band, The Zombies.

Songwriter Rod Argent's second song, was recorded and released in mid-1964. This minor key, jazz-tinged single was first aired in the United States during the first week in August 1964, on New York rock radio station WINS by Stan Z. Burns, who debuted the song on his daily noontime "Hot Spot" segment, during which new songs were played. The tune began to catch on in early fall and eventually reached #2 in the Billboard Hot 100.

The song was a hit again for Santana on his 1977 album Moonflower. It peaked at #27.

It was also covered by the UK Subs 1979 where it made #36

"About Her", Malcolm McLaren's mash-up of "She's Not There", and Bessie Smith singing W.C. Handy's "St. Louis Blues," was heavily featured in the Quentin Tarantino film, Kill Bill.

TV pop band Bel's Boys have recorded a cover version of the song.

The song was also covered by heavy metal band Vanilla Fudge.

Crowded House recorded a version of this song in 1990.

Chris Sligh, on the March 20, 2007 broadcast of American Idol, covered the song.
