Shelly Novack

Shelly Novack (January 10, 1944 - May 27, 1978) was an American football player at Santa Monica City College (class of 1963). He was an all-league and special mention JC All-American at SMCC, and 1 team All-American at Long Beach State in 1964 and 1965. In 1966, Novack was drafted as a wide receiver by the AFL's San Diego Chargers. After two seasons in San Diego, he met a producer playing football in a touch league off season, he invited Shelly to the studios and Shelly became a television and movie actor. In April 1975, Shelly commented to talk show host Mike Douglass, "There were all these pretty girls around, so I stuck around." This in response to a question Mike asked Shelly about his start in the film business. In 1977, Slammin Shelly Novack won the very first Toyota Grand Prix pro-celebrity race, and was on his way to becoming a professional Indy driver. He's remembered for his many guest rolls on television shows such as "The F.B.I", "Police Story", and "MostWanted".
Novack died of a heart attack at age 34. He is interred in the Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California.
