[edit] Notable Locals
Actor Tom Cruise is rumored to own a mansion in Eagle's Nest, an off-branch and accessible only through Shelter Bay, named for its high altitude, allowing an incredible view of the Swinomish Channel and native bald eagles. Eagle's Nest is comprised of many long winding driveways leading to elaborate mansions.
[edit] Features
Shelter Bay features private access to Martha's Beach and Rainbow Beach (also known as 'Little Beach': the exact name has not been determined), numerous scenic hiking trails, three tennis courts, two swimming pools, a golf course, playground and a club house. The club house can be rented for private parties, weddings and funeral receptions.
[edit] Security and Safety Measures
Shelter Bay is a gated community. Only card-bearing members may enter. While guests are welcomed into Shelter Bay, members must previously arrange with the 24/7 security staff for their admittance. Members may also issue a list of "approved guests", in which the guest must only be identified as an approvee upon arrival.
Security guards patrol the streets of Shelter Bay at all times. Guards most often drive a white pick-up truck with an orange set of lights on the top emblemed with a blue neighborhood watch symbol on each door.
Security has been known to reprimand the odd group of teenagers drinking beer on the golf course at night.
[edit] Regulations
Inhabitants can be fined for breaking rules such as painting their home an unapproved color, holding a garage sale or selling lemonade without a permit and placing any type of sign other than For Sale, anywhere in their yard. It is considered scandalous to engage in this type of behavior.
[edit] Residents
While Shelter Bay has been stereotyped in the past as a senior citizen zone, in recent years, more and more young white-collar parented families have been lured in by the promise of safety and summertime swimming, resulting in a more Liberal area. Trendy gay couples and rich singles enjoy the privacy and respect that fellow residents provide.
