ShoqBox
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Philips ShoqBox is a series of flash memory-based personal electronic devices from manufacturer Philips. The ShoqBox is an MP3 Player, with attached speakers.
The product name ShoqBox refers to the Boombox, a portable stereo system, which was very popular in the 1980s.
It connects by USB 1.0 ONLY, so music transfer can take a little longer. It has a line-in jack so you can also use it as speakers for another mp3 player, cd player, laptop, etc. The speakers are excellent.
An FM radio is built in to the unit.
Philips includes Musicmatch Jukebox software for getting files on and off the device. Some people don't like this software, and a 3rd party has written a utility called ShoqBox Buddy for updating the device.
From the ShockBoxBuddy Technical Information Page... The ShoqBox uses a database to store all file and playlist information. However, it is not capable of creating this database it can only read it, thus necessitating a second program like MusicMatch or ShoqBox Buddy to update the database. The database is an SQLite database which is an open source project.
