[edit] Chaga
Chaga is the name of a parasitic fungus that grows on birch and alder trees in cold climates, that has been much used and revered by indigenous peoples of Siberia as a health giving and life sustaining tonic. It is now known that Chaga tea is a potent antioxidant and has other immunostimulatory and adaptogenic effects in the body.
[edit] Usage and Pharmacology
Chaga is used normally as a tea. Only Chaga that grows on birch is used and this is because chaga concentrates the betulin which the birch produces. Chaga is an extremely potent antioxidant and measures at around 36,000 points on the ORAC scale, the highest of any food source. Wolfberries are the next closest thing, with an ORAC score of 258.
