Silvija Talaja is a former Croatian women's tennis player. Born in Imotski on January 14th, 1978, she turned pro in 1992. First success came in 1996 when as a WC player reached the finals of WTA Ladies Bol tournament (l. to Pizzichini). Her most successful year was 2000 when she won two WTA tournaments and received career-high ranking of No. 18 (May 29). Won 12 Grand Slam matches, represented Croatia in Sidney Olympic games 2000 and played for Croatia's Fed cup team for 9 years. Also won a Gold medal in Mediterranean Games 1993 in doubles. Achieved 300 WTA singles victories, including those over over Kournikova, Sanchez-Vicario, C. Martinez, Tauziat, Sugiyama, Dechy, Schnyder...
In 2004. surpassed 1.000.000 $ mark in career earnings.
Self-described as sentimental, stubborn, open with people and likes to be around happy people. Enjoys watching movies, listening to music, studying languages, reading and spending time with niece and friends.
Retired in 2006. Same year married Tonći Tolja and gave birth to son Gabrijel.
