A recent Mintel report shows that more and more people are travelling alone and in the UK represents at £10 billion market.
There are many reasons for more people travelling alone.
- More choice in airlines and forms of transport
- The World is more accessible, in particular the old Eastern European countries many of which either now have EU membership or have an application for membership
- There are in fact more single people. The potential size of the holiday market for single people in the UK is huge, and is growing steadily. Official figures indicate that 39% of the adult population is currently single, totalling almost 19 million people. This proportion is expected to rise to 41% by 2011.
- The internet has given people the power to self package their own singles holidays allowing tour operators to be more flexible and a new breed of operator outside of the parameters of the traditional "package holiday" company to emerge.

- There is a massive growth in adventure holidays such as skiing and sailing - these holidays tend not to attract couples as much as singles
