SIP Express Media Server (SEMS)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The SIP Express Media Server is an open source media server under GPL license. Through its plug-in based architecture, it can be easily extended, either in C++ or Python. Started as a project at the Technical University Berlin, it has been further developed at FOKUS (a research center part of the Fraunhofer Society). SEMS uses the SIP Express Router (SER) as its SIP stack. SEMS provides now conference mixing, IVR, voicemail and many other features.
[edit] Media Server versus PBX
In the free software market, a lot of similar server software are available. But most of them are focused on the implementation of a PBX in the VoIP world. Unlike those software, SEMS is designed to be a real media server with full commitment to the principles of SIP. The best suited design principle is KISS: Keep it Simple and Stupid.
