Slovak noble families
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a list of some of the historic noble families from the territory of present-day Slovakia. The main area of modern Slovakia was incorporated into the Kingdom of Hungary in the 10th and 11th centuries and it later belonged to Habsburg Monarchy. Titles were granted by the King of Hungary and also by foreign kings.
As in most regions of Europe, many of the noble families were of mixed ethnic origins, spoke various languages (especially Latin, which was the official language until the 19th century), and owned property in different parts of Central Europe. That is why this list overlaps with similar lists of other modern countries. See also Nobility and royalty of the Kingdom of Hungary.
