SMK King George V, Seremban is a day school and the entry of students are controlled and determined by the state Education Department of Negeri Sembilan based on a few specific criteria. This school offers the opportunity to study for students with potential but not given the offer to full boarding school. SMK King George V is classified as a primer school which is rich in tradition with a background of excellence in sports and academic. In the field of academic, SMK King George V wish to 'Terbilang di kalangan cemerlang' that is "well-known among the excellent". This wish goes hand in hand with the vision and mision of the school.
The school was named after King George V, the monarch of England. Since 23 April is St George's Day, the slaying of the dragon by St George was accepted as the motif of the school crest.

SMK KGV first launched on 15 January 1923 in a train station building as a GES. On 7 October 1926, the main bulding construction process started. On 23rd of April 1928, the main buiding located at Jalan Hose (now Jalan Za’aba) was officially opened by W.G. Ormsby Gore.

The classes names are based on the name of the past Sultans from Tanah Melayu
[edit] Entry Conditions
- Form 1 - Complete Year 6 in any Government Primary School with 5As in the UPSR examination. Students from SJK(C) and SJK(T) with 7As (sat for Bahasa Melayu Sekolah Kebangsaan Paper) will be considered. Priority will be given to pupils who obtained high marks in their co-curriculum.
- Form 4 - Minimum 5A achievement in PMR examination inclusive of Science and Mathematics.
- Lower Six - Pass SPM examination and obtained at least 3 credits inclusive of Malay Language. To enter the Humanity Stream, students must obtain a total aggregate not more than 12 units for the best THREE subjects. To enter Science Stream, students must obtain at least 3 credits with the total aggregate not more than 18 units for the best Science subjects.
The conditions are based on the current standard and resolution made by the state education department. The entry affair of students into SMK King George V is under the control and power of the State Education Department of Negeri Sembilan.

KGV's rugby team is named 'Cougar'. The 15's U18 Team was placed 2nd at State level.While the 10's u15 team placed 2nd at National level.This was the highest achivement to be achieved by the school rugby team.
