SMK Subang Utama

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Subang Utama or SMKSU is a secondary school located in Subang Jaya Selangor, Malaysia. It was established in 1989 and was one of the very first secondary schools in the area. The school consists of 5 study blocks(buildings), a canteen, and a workshop. Its foundation is a large crater-like hole in the ground.

SMKSU is noted as one of the top schools in Selangor for both academic and co-corricular aspects. It is also the best school in Subang Jaya. Its club activities like LEO, Setia and Interact are highly encouraged, while also keeping active in inter-school sports tournament participation. A healthy number of medals are bagged each year by the volleyball club, including many others. Student-organized events are also accepted by the school, and can be commonly seen throughout the year.
With a good results in students majority wise, SMKSU is a favourable school for many parents to enroll their children into. Thus, the school at times finds itself having too many applicants each year. A measure was taken to reduce the number of applicants by stating a rule of requirement that the school would practice a "nearest residence" basis, meaning instead of a first come first serve basis, the nearest resident to the school would be allowed in. Proof of residence near the school could be shown via electric bills or other home bills stating the address.
SMKSU is also active in raising its own funds to further improve their school facilities. Fundraising projects come in forms like jogathons, charity dinners, or direct donations. Notable achievements are having built in 2002 a computer lab, and in 2004 a large roofed assembly hall (which also serves other purposes like perfomances or charity dinners). Clubs often raise funds for the school as well. Students in SMKSU are well connected and have produced many well-known athletes.
In 2006, the school authorities decided to install CCTV cameras for the safety of the students and school staff. So far, no action has been taken although, few students were caught red-handed on the camera while trying to skip school.
The 14th edition of the SMKSU school magazine, Gemala, was ranked fourth place in Malaysia. The editorial board of SMKSU was also nominated as one of the best boards around Subang Jaya.
At the end of 2006, the school was awarded the title "Cemerlang" by the Kementertian Pendidikan and is automatically nominated to be one of the cluster schools. Cluster schools are government schools but having the title of a private school with extra privilleges given by the government to the school.

Recently, SMKSU was hit by a storm, leaving the new hall minorly destroyed, with the news roofs left to be repaired. Not only that, the reading corners or "mushrooms" commonly used by the students were struck by a storm, causing the roof top to actually flew.
