SABOTAGE is a Bulgarian hard rock - heavy metal band founded in 1995 in Nova Zagora by the brothers Svetlin and Nikolay Borisov. The first line-up included Jivko Petrov(guitar), Dian Kolev(guitar, vocals), Svetlin Borisov(bass), Nikolay Borisov(vocals). The band did two concerts in local clubs, mostly performing rock hits by Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep and others as well as their own songs. In 1996, after quarrels between the two guitarist, Nikolay and Svetlin reformed the band. The new members were their cousins - Martin Donev(guitar) and his brother Andon Donev - "Doni"(drums). The band recorded their first album(due to small budget, rather a demo-album) - Vol. 1. The album was recorded July - August in Athens, Greece in "The Old Studio of Steels". No company was found to release this album. The band then returned to Bulgaria and took part in the annual Rock Fest in Nova Zagora. The headliners were Terminal(a local speed-trash band), The Darkest Hour opened the show.
In the autumn Jivko Petrov was invited to join Sabotage again as the Donevs went back to Greece. The band did an unplugged concert playing only covers of Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Eagles and others.
1997 was the most successful year for the band. Terminal's drummer Ivan joined them for a concert in January. Later on this year Dobromir Dobrev "Droba"(ex- Darkest Hour) replaced Jivko Petrov and again with Ivan(ex-Terminal) on drums Sabotage were rehearsing for a big concert due on 15 June. The band recorded a small demo during these rehearsals which still stands as one of the best performances of Sabotage. However this line up of Sabotage never performed on stage...During the summer Martin and Doni Donev returned to Nova Zagora and Sabotage again was in, what is arguably considered to be the best line-up of the band. In The Wizard's Hands was recorded and contains only songs by Martin, Svetlin and Nikolay and shows a new, much heavier direction of the band. On 15 August Sabotage did their last big concert. A video was made of the show.
After this the band split for some months. Occasionally Nikolay and Svetlin played with Jivko Petrov, no new songs were written in this period though.
In April 1998 the band members gathered again in Nova Zagora since the Donevs could find some time and came back from Greece. A new demo was recorded, containing new material. However the long awaited concert did not happen for the sake of bureaucracy and a corrupted deal with a local businessman, screwing out the last chance and opportunity of a Sabotage concert up to this date.
Due to members' busy schedules the band still cannot gather in their full line-up, however two new songs were recorded 2001 in Sofia, showing the enlarged potential of the musicians.
For the present time Svetlin Borisov is in USA, occupied in the restaurant business. His brother Nikolay is in USA as well. Martin Donev is in his last year in the Athens Academy of Fine Arts. Doni is a successful artist in Athens, never giving up the drums.
The cousins plan to get back to Sabotage as soon as their schedules allow.
