SNOS
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Slovenian People's Liberation Council (in Slovenian: Slovenski narodnoosvobodilni svet, abbr. SNOS) was formed as the highest governing organ of anti-fascist movement in Slovenia and during World War II. President of its presidium was Josip Vidmar.[1]
SNOS was formed on 19 February 1944 in Črnomelj when 120-member plenum of Liberation Front of the Slovenian People (in Slovenian: Osvobodilna fronta slovenskega naroda) decided to change its name to SNOS and proclaim it self to be Slovenian parliament. One of its decisions was that after the end of the war Slovenia would be one of federal states of Yugoslavia.[2]
In spite of the fact that Slovenia was occupied, SNOS wasn't just symbolic entity. For example, it established Statistical Bureau of Slovenia on its session on 19 August 1944.[3] and on it session in Ajdovščina on 5 May 1945 it formed Slovenian government (Boris Kidrič was named mandator)[4].
