[edit] History
The Snowboard was originally entitled "Further From Chloe" as a response of sorts to...well, Chloe's "Further" board, but what started out as kind of a lark grew into its own thing. Giles wanted to make the board white so it would be more work friendly (garish colors don't help keep up appearances in the office), so hence the name. For some reason certain elements on the Spundae board seemed to think the Snowboard was founded as a "shit-talking board"; in fact, we just wanted a place to do the message board "thing" free of constraints - listing "competing events", talking about drugs (if one desired), and yes, the occasional talking of shit. Membership by approval! Now we have our own FTP music resource, the Snowcast, a child we're sponsoring overseas, and so on. 1
Launched in January, 2004, the website has grown to include over 350 members as of March, 2007.2
In February of 2007, the snowboard became sponsors for a child in the Philippines, Jemmalene B. This adoption sprouted from the 2006 Snowboard Fantasy Football league, in which Sami was declared the winner. But because he was such a pain in the ass during the season, and because he paid his fees late, the board members in the league agreed to hold out payment on him for a few weeks. Irritated that he was made to wait, and when he realized that the overall pot was smaller than originally projected, he demanded the names of those who didn't pay so that he could personally phone them to pay-up. He then accused the league commissioner of negligence, for not locking rosters of those members who didn't pay - even though Sami was initially among those who did not pay, and locking the roster would have prevented him from winning the pool. In the end, the league decided to donate the funds to a real needy child, Jemmalene B. A vote was taken as to where the funds should be distributed. Zambia was a close second but in the end the children of the Philippines prevailed. Since that time, the entire snowboard - including those who did not participate in the 2006 Snowboard Fantasy Football League - has come together to contribute funds in support of Jemmalene B. Even Sami has gone along and contributed. Bruinsurf (aka: Ed) is the master of the drunk post and a total cockmaster. The rumor persists that he likes small boys and rodents, but this is just a nasty rumour.

[edit] Controversy
After the New York Yankees failed to win the World Series, forum regular and hard core Yankees fan, "VegasGuy", took a leave of absence to avoid ridicule. He later returned only to leave again when harassed for an incident where he failed to "hook up friends" visiting his home town. Despite his absence, VegasGuy continues to be a mascot of sorts for the messageboard. Those members who contribute the most are given the title "postcount > VG's eyebrows"--a reference to the bushy growths on the former member's face. As of March, 2007, only two members currently hold this title: JM and Jaero.
