SoftPhone
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A SoftPhone is a computer program that enables a PC to become a SIP based telephone.
SIP is a protocol developed by the IETF MMUSIC Working Group and proposed standard for setting up sessions between one or more clients. It is currently the leading signaling protocol for Voice over IP, gradually replacing H.323 in this role. Basically it is a language that VoIP phones use to talk to each other.
A VOIP provider, such as easyTelecom can actually send telephone calls to your computer, or a SIP enabled IP Phone.
To use a SoftPhone, all a user requires is a computer, a headset, and an internet connection.
