Sonic Man
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sonic Man was a children's afternoon television show host for WCCB-TV channel 18, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He appeared between regular programming and talked directly to the viewers. He wore a blue body suit and a mask that completely covered his face. He was from another planet, and would teach a new word of his alien language to viewers every day. When he spoke in this language, a translation flashed in English at the bottom of the screen. He typically greeted viewers with "Obon, Paxis," which meant "Hello, kids." Other Sonic Man terms included "Regrott to your reflectax" ("return to your television") and "Kinhi my Gsi and Geowi" ("hi boys and girls").
The character was performed by station personality Larry Sprinkle, who was also WCCB-TV's meteorologist. Sonic Man's off-screen (and never seen) sidekick/announcer was Rod Rich, an announcer at radio station WEZC.
He was created circa 1978 by Lynnsy Logue and lasted until the early 1980s.
