Sound Car-Tunes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sound Car-Tunes or Song Car-Tunes is a series of short animation films produced by Max Fleischer and Dave Fleischer between May 1924 and September 1926, all made in the Lee De Forest Phonofilm sound-on-film process.
There were about 30 titles in the series, beginning with Oh Mabel, Goodbye My Lady Love, and Come Take a Trip on My Airship (all 1924). All featured the "Follow the Bouncing Ball" gimmick, allowing the audience in the theater to sing along.
The Fleischers and DeForest had a falling out in September 1926 over the sound quality of DeForest's system, and the fact that DeForest Phonofilm Co. was about to file for bankruptcy. The Fleischers re-released some of the Song Car-Tune titles in 1928-1932 with new soundtracks made in the RCA Photophone process, continuing the series until 1938 under the name Screen Songs.
