South Hanningfield is a small village and civil parish^[1] in south Essex, England. It is located approximately 10 km (6 miles) south-southeast of the county town of Chelmsford. The village is in the borough of Chelmsford and in the parliamentary constituency of Rayleigh.

The village is by Hanningfield Reservoir. South Hanningfield has approximately 100 households.^[2]

The civil parish includes Downham and the largest village of the parish, Ramsden Heath.
