The Southern Football League Umpires' Association (SFLUA) is a pace-setting umpiring association serving the Southern Football League in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs.

Umpiring is a great, fun way to be involved right in the middle of the greatest game on earth and earn big bucks to boot! Whether it's the Fieldie, making the decisions for a great game to be had by the players and enjoyed by the fans, the Goalie, determining that match winning goal or the Boundary, making sure the game is played within its limits and getting super-fit in doing so, there's a gig for everyone, male or female, in the umpiring world!
Apart from great fun and camaraderie amongst umpires and players, an umpy becomes super-fit and is an integral part of our great game of football. Be right in the heart of the action! But, best of all, it's a great way to get lots of dollars - great for teenagers, saving up for their car, computer or a stereo, great for the adults to stash some money away for that much earned end-of-year holiday. And the friendship and camaraderie is second to none. Lifelong friendships are formed in the umpiring world. And, of course, umpiring does require discipline and dedication and the lessons learnt in umpiring are so rewarding, helpful and applicable to outside pursuits in all walks of life.

[edit] Season 2007
The off-season has been a busy time for both the SFL and the SFLUA with a number of changes at league, and association level. In 2007 the SFLUA has a new and vibrant committee with Jason McNiece as President, Brett McGeorge as Secretary and Courtney Lai as Treasurer.
The new committee has worked extremely hard to develop a range of exciting new initiatives which will move the association into the 21st Century. Anyone interested in umpiring with the SFLUA in 2007 should visit the SFLUA Website for further details.
Training sessions take place every Monday and Wednesday at 6pm on at Bricker Reserve in Moorabbin, Victoria.
[edit] History of the SFLUA
The Southern Football League Umpires Association (SFLUA), in its present form, was created in 1993 by a merger between the South East Suburban Football League Umpires Association (SESFLUA) and the Eastern Suburban Churches Football Umpires Association (ESCFUA), necessitated by a corresponding merger between their governing leagues (the SESFL and the ESCFA respectively).
The SESFLUA had changed its name the year before to align itself with the newly-named Southern Football League (SFL), such change being undertaken by the SESFL to promote the league as the premier competition in the southern region in anticipation of the Victorian Metropolitan Football League breaking the metropolitan area into four geographical regions (ie. North, South, East, West) with teams to be 'zoned' accordingly.
