Southern Province, Zambia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Southern Province is one of Zambia's nine provinces. The Zambezi River forms the Southern border of the Southern Province. Victoria Falls is located along that boundary. The Eastern boundary between Zambia and Zimbabwe is formed by the Zambezi and Kariba Dam. The provincial capital is Livingstone. The Batonga are the largest ethnic group in the Province. A rail line and paved road run from Livingstone to Lusaka, passing through a number of towns: --Kalomo, Choma, Pemba, Monze, Mazabuka, and Kafue in the North.
The Southern plateau rises above Kariba Dam in the Eastern part of the province. The Kafue River flows through the Western portion of the province, providing a home for a variety of animal life. One of Zambia's largest and most remote national parks, Kafue National Park, is located at the Western border of the province.
