Space of Freedom
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Space of Freedom" was a concert performed by French musician Jean Michel Jarre in Poland, at the Gdańsk Shipyard, on August 26, 2005, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Solidarity trade union's foundation. Jarre was invited by Lech Wałęsa's son to hold this concert. There was an audience of more than 170,000 people who bought tickets, as well as many others who observed the event from outside the shipyard, like the high buildings of Zieleniak and the hills of Góra Gradowa.
Lech Wałęsa, the union leader who lead the strikes from 1980, as well as the current president of the city of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, attended the concert. Lech Wałęsa gave a speech about the meaning of Solidarity and the non-violent change of the political system, and congratulated Jean Michel Jarre.
The concert was broadcasted live by the Polish Television and Polish Radio, as well as by satellite, and originated a picture book, an audio CD and a DVD-video.
