A party of 6 militia are sent to hoe corn in a farm field staked by Omri Spafford. A war party attacks the group and kills Searles,Spafford,McIlwaine,Dull and "Johny Bull". Francis Spencer and Bennett Milton escape the ambush, and flee across the Pecatonica river.
This marker is located in a cemetery due north of the Spafford farm field.
