Spandan Daftary

Spandan "Spoon" Daftary (born April 13, 1981 in New Castle, Pennsylvania) is a 2-time Emmy Award-winning associate producer on ESPN2's Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith.

Spandan worked on ESPN's Sportscenter in 2003 and 2004 when the show won consecutive Sports Emmy awards for "Outstanding Daily Studio Show." Accordingly, Spandan was awarded two Emmy statuettes, one of which resides with his family in Oklahoma. During Spandan's two years at ESPN, he lived at the Grovemont Apartments in Bristol, CT, in unit B9. Spandan's office achievements at ESPN were overshadowed by a series of unfortunate life experiences away from the workplace. He feuded with landlords and, after reserving a bed for purchase at a local Bristol furniture store, saw the same bed sold to someone else the day he intended to pay for it. These improbable and mind-blowiong disappointments became known as "Bristolings," a term Spandan coined himself. Or, in verb form, "getting Bristoled." The terms became part of the ESPN vernacular, with employees walking the halls saying they "got Bristoled" in the midst of a tough work shift. Eventually, Spandan would confess to being under a curse of the town itself, repeatedly saying, "Bristol owns me. This town owns me." He even began referring to Bristol as a "she."

Spandan started at forward for Sewickley Academy's 1999 Section Championship squad. The head coach of the team, Victor Gianatta, gave Spandan the nickname, "Spoon," which he goes by to this day.

In the late 1990s, Spandan was known by his Boston University classmates as "Doon Spaftary," a spoonerism on his given name.
