Spluii Numa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Spluii Numa was a pre-grunge Seattle punk band from the early 1980s. Its members consisted of Erik Aasen (vocals), Charles Quain (guitar), Kieth Strobel (bass), and Alex Shumway - better known as Alex Vincent (drummer).
The origin of the band name came from graffitti on the wall of Shumway's highschool. Someone had written "John Lennon lives!" on a school locker. Then someone else came along and crossed out the word 'lives' and wrote "went spluii numa!"
Upon the band's demise, Shumway went on to link up with Mark Arm, Steve Turner, Jeff Ament, and Stone Gossard to form the influential grunge band Green River.
After Green River broke up in 1984, Arm and Turner later went on to form the band Mudhoney. Ament and Gossard went on to form Mother Love Bone and later Pearl Jam. Shumway attended university in Japan, and went on to work in politics. Shumway still plays music with the band The Zack Static Sect.
After the end of Green River, Spluii Numa bassist, Strobel, went on to be the accountant for Mudhoney.
