Apologies for not referencing the 'imagination' assertion straight out. Doing a Google News archive search against 'Tommy Westphall' produces numerous hits from articles over the last 18 years with exactly that assertion; it has not been stated as a fact, but 'One of the more common interpretations', which I believe is probably the appropriate phrasing when referenced, as it is now.
