Stapenhill
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stapenhill is an area and civil parish in Burton upon Trent. It is sometimes considered a village, though it has long since been surrounded by new developments.
Stapenhill Gardens is the epitome of Stapenhill. Its main feature is a gigantic model swan with flowers planted in it. This represents the gardens' main inhabitants, the swans. In a similar vein, the local football team is known as The Stapenhill Swans. Stapenhill Gardens is also the location of the annual "Tulip Festival."
Major pubs in the area include The Copper Hearth, The Punch Bowl, The Barley Mow and The Elms.
Other local features include a Church of England church and a cemetery. The main Secondary Schools in the area are Paulet High School, and Robert Sutton Catholic High School.
The village is east of the Trent, and thus was administered as part of Derbyshire until the Local Government Act 1888.
