Stave Hill
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stave Hill is in a 5.2 acre ecological park, part of the Russia Dock Woodland, in the area of Rotherhithe, London Borough of Southwark close to Canada Water. Much of the park is what used to be the Stave Dock of the Surrey Commercial Docks, which was filled in during 1984 and then redeveloped by the London Docklands Development Corporation. Much of the park is now an ecological park, meaning that it is a nature reserve close to the centre of London. Since 1988 the park is managed by the Trust for Urban Ecology.
In the park is also an artificial small hill from which the park takes its name. The hill was built as a truncated cone, and the top providing a viewing platform over the City of London, Greenwich, South London as well as Canary Wharf; it also has a small model of the old docks.
