[edit] Merging Theatrical Technician with Stagehand

I think that Theatrical Technician should be merged into Stagehand because they are the same thing.Lekogm 22:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

How is the determination made to merge Theatrical Technician into Stagehand as opposed to the other way around. I think Theatrical Technician is a more general term and covers all of those who work in technical theater as opposed to those who specifically work deck crew. In the usage I am familiar with, the lightboard operator would be a Theatrical Technician, but not a stagehand. --Morydd 21:21, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

I would base it on the fact that the union in the United States and Canada that represents these workers refer to them all as stagehands regardless of what department they work in.Lekogm 21:25, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

As I've said elsewhere, IATSE is not the final arbiter of terminology. The world is larger than North America. There must be a Wikipedia article on how to resolve these kinds of issues. I'll take a look. Bryson430 13:46, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

How about this as a compromise: Why don't we just merge both of these articles with List of theatre personnel in a section called "Theatrical Technician/Stagehand" and then just update that artice accordingly? --Lekogm 19:24, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Suppose, adding on to that idea, we made the list of theater personell kind of like the Stage lighting instruments page, with a small description on each and then a link to the main article. Then stagehand and Theatrical technician could be merged together into theatrical technician, as discussed on theatrical technician talk page as well as here. In Denmark the term stagehand is used to describe the people who help the technicians doing their job. Technicians have the responsibility that things are done right and in a safe way - the stagehands just do as they're told. Stagehands and theatrical technician are not the same. --BlueEel 08:38, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
