Steubenville High School is a public high school in Steubenville, Ohio. It is the only public high school in the Steubenville City Schools District. The school is commonly known by the name of its mascot, Big Red. Popular lore says the mascot got its name from the famous race horse, Man 'O War. That's not exactly true, but the school "ran" with it, and a replica of the horse on its hind leg rises from atop the scoreboard and blows fire after home touchdowns.
The school is known throughout the Ohio Valley for its athletic pursuits. Famous graduates include Ohio University women's basketball coach Sylvia Crawley, legendary Iowa tackle and Outland Trophy winner Calvin Jones, Nebraska All-American Harry Wilson, Ohio State football player Michael "Buster" Tillman, and renowned card player Josh Greenberg.
