Steve Matai is a New Zealand rugby league player who is of Samoan heritage. He plays at centre for the Manly Sea Eagles and has represented New Zealand. He is known for being aggressive and vicious during the game. It is likely that Matai will bulk up so that he can be utilised in the forwards by Manly coach Des Hasler in 2007. This is in an attempt to fill the hole in their backrow, voided by the retirement of their inspirational skipper, Ben Kennedy, at the end of 2006.[citation needed]
