Steve Randle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Steve Randle is a character in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. He is a member of a greaser gang in Tulsa, Oklahoma led by Darrel "Darry" Shaynne Curtis, Jr. His best friend and co-worker at the gas station where he is employed part time is Darry's younger brother Sodapop. He considers the youngest Curtis brother, Ponyboy, the protagonist and narrator of the novel, to be a tag-along and a pest (according to Pony). He is a whiz with auto mechanics, is very good at stealing hubcaps, cheats at cards (or tries to) and is a tough fighter, having once held off four Socs with a busted Coke bottle. He is often inconsiderate and once nearly had his jaw busted by Darry for a disparaging remark. He combs his hair into complicated swirls and, in the movie, is portrayed as having an eagle tattoo on his left shoulder.
He busts his lip and bruises some ribs at the rumble, but is still able to run afterwards. He is present with the rest of the gang to witness the death of Dallas Winston.
In the movie he is portrayed by Tom Cruise.
