Stolipinovo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stolipinovo (Bulgarian: Столипиново) is the biggest predominantly Roma-inhabited district in Plovdiv and among the biggest in the country. Its population is 45,000, of which only 5,000 identify as Roma, the rest claiming Turkish origin. The district is located in the outskirts of the city, in its northeastern part on the right bank of the Maritsa. People which do not belong to the minority groups have gradually moved to live elsewhere.
Stolipinovo is arguably the most problematic Roma district in Plovdiv, with crime, illegal construction, lack of education and a Hepatitis A outbreak in 2006 being some of the main concerns.
