Storm the Castle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Storm the Castle is a building event for Science Olympiad.
Competitors build a device that launches a projectile by using the energy of a falling conterweight. See the Catapult and Trebuchet pages for more information on these devices.
The judges designate the counterweight and projectile for the players to use. The counterweight must weigh between one and three kilograms. The projectile must be roughly circular. It is commonly a bean bag, a racquet ball, or a golf ball.
The goal is to get the most accurate throws. The competitors tell the judges where they want the target based on the testing they have done with their device. Then, they launch their device outside of a defined area around their device. They get three shots, and the device that makes the most accurate throws, wins.
