Boron trichloride as a member of this group of substance gives a good example. The B-Cl bond is polarized but not ionic like in aluminium trichloride, which form polymeric solid, the boron halides are molecular.. The halogene and the Diborane is B(OCH3)3
The other big group are boron hydrogen compounds which have similarity to the hydrocarbons. These boranes form clusters.
Closo-boranes (closed), from which only the anions are known, form closed polyeders. B6H62- octaeder, B7H72- trigonal bipyramide, B8H82- dodecaeder and B12H122- icosaeder are examples for these kind of molecules.
Nido-boranes BnHn+4 (nidus=nest) are form like a basket or nest.
Arachno-boranes (arachne=spider) form spider like structures
Hypho-boranes BnHn+8 (hypho=net) form net like structures
