Due to a glitch or something a revert caused the page to blank instead. I'm working on a solution. Shinobu 03:02, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
- Did a full refresh and the problem magically disappeared... Shinobu 03:08, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] multiple solutions?
I think a puzzle with a unique solution would be a better choice for the article on Sudoku. I think it is fairly well accepted that puzzles with multiple solutions are not "true" sudoku. Comments? Brighterorange 01:00, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- If you can create one yourself, then why not?
- But if you want to copy one from a newspaper, then beware... strangely enough these things may perhaps be protected by copyright. Shinobu 06:25, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I'm just looking for some kind of consensus, because it's a featured article and I think the image is otherwise great. I have indeed written a program for sudoku puzzle generation, with unique solutions, so I will replace this image with another PD puzzle soon if nobody objects. - As someone pointed out, the alternate solution is invalid, so there's no need for a new puzzle. Brighterorange 20:13, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] alternate "solution" is incorrect
The alternate solution shown on this page has two 2's in column seven. The puzzle as it is given has only one solution. I hope I am doing this correctly - I am a first-time Wiki contributor. 18:48, 01 September 2005 UTC
- Yup, good eyes. I went ahead and deleted the alternate "solution". BTW, should sign your comments with ~~~~. —Brighterorange 20:13, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Incorrect Solution
The text-only solution shown on the page is clearly incorrect.
For some reason, I am not able to edit the page.
Here is the correct solution:
5 3 4 | 6 7 8 | 9 1 2 6 7 2 | 1 9 5 | 3 4 8 1 9 8 | 3 4 2 | 5 6 7 ------+-------+------ 8 5 9 | 7 6 1 | 4 2 3 4 2 6 | 8 5 3 | 7 9 1 7 1 3 | 9 2 4 | 8 5 6 ------+-------+------ 9 6 1 | 5 3 7 | 2 8 4 2 8 7 | 4 1 9 | 6 3 5 3 4 5 | 2 8 6 | 1 7 9
- someone had broken the solution on the commons description page, which I restored. — brighterorange (talk) 18:47, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
