Sunday Oliseh (born April 14, 1974 in Abavo, Delta State) is a former Nigerian footballer. He played 40 international matches and scored 2 goals for Nigeria, and played at the Football World Cups of 1994 and 1998. Oliseh also participated in the Olympic gold medal winning team of 1996.
A midfielder, Oliseh played for well known clubs such as Ajax, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.
He is most fondly remembered for scoring the winning goal in the 3rd group match against Spain in the France 1998 World Cup that put Nigeria at the top of the group and knocked highly favoured Spain out of the World Cup. A throw-in deep in the Spanish half got deflected by a defender. Oliseh ran and fired an explosive shot from midway between the half line and the 18-yard box and took Spanish goalkeeper Zubizarreta completely by surprise and it went into the net.
In January 2006, at the age of 31, Oliseh retired from professional football after playing a half season for Belgian top club Racing Genk.
A high profile fantasy premier league named The League Of gives the winner of the league the Sunday Oliseh trophy. The league is run by Daniel Chubb, a highly respected member of the UK water industry. The current holder is Dim Siarad managed by Tottenham Hotspur fan, Jack Chubb.
