Swapan Dasgupta

Swapan Dasgupta is a reputed Indian journalist who used to be managing editor of India Today weekly and now is a freelance columnist. His articles are published in various Indian and international media including Pioneer, The Telegraph, Dainik Jagran, The Times of India, Outlook, Wall Street Journal and several others.
He was born in Calcutta on October 3, 1955, completing his schooling at La Martiniere, Calcutta where he was a classmate and a good friend of Chandan Mitra. He then went on to do a BA in History at St. Stephen's College, Delhi, before relocating to London to complete his MA and PhD in History at SOAS (School for Oriental and African Studies). He then taught Politics at Nuffield College, Oxford. Back in India, he started off his journalism career at the Statesman.
He then went on to be part of The Times of India, The Telegraph and The Indian Express before joining India Today. He currently resides in Delhi with his wife and son.
