The Swedish Theatre (Swedish: Svenska Teatern, Finnish: Ruotsalainen Teatteri) is a Swedish-speaking theatre in Helsinki, Finland and is located at the Erottaja square, at the end of Esplanadi.
Originally, a theatre called Nya Teatern ("the New Theatre"), designed by architect G. T. Chiewitz and built in 1860, was in the place of the current Swedish Theatre. It was destroyed in a fire on 8 May 1863, but was soon rebuilt. The new theatre building, designed by Nikolaj Benois, was built in October 1866 and inaugurated by way of a celebratory concert. Many Swedish musicians have held concerts there, including Oscar Byström and Johan Lindgren.
